Is a shaved head considered unprofessional to a Japanese person? I usually shave my head and I want to go to Japan sometime this year. Should I let my hair grow long for the application picture and stuff? I don't want to risk not hearing back from schools just because my hair is shaved (with clippers, not with a razor blade). Should I not worry so much about it or what? |

Don't worry
But the Nazi tattoos on your neck might pose a problem. |

Shaved heads are quite popular with English teachers in Japan. I'm considered a bit of a hippy by comparison. Next time you turn up for a GEOS godo meeting you might think you've turned up to a skinhead convention. |

I wonder how much of this popularity has to do with making visits to Japanese barbers easier, or to dispense with them altogether. I know I've thought about it... |

There's a great hairdresser in Ginza who charges 1500 yen a cut and does an excellent job. And even throws in a shoulder massage. |

Don't worry about shaving your head. Complain how Japanese hairdressers are racist because they can't/won't speak English to you. Buy a scooter. Pay Sekiguchi-san 30,000 yen. Avoid the search function. It seems to be all the rage these days! |

Canuck, seems there is more than one fan of Hiro from Heroes on this board. Nice. Seen the most recent episode? |

No kidding.
Seriously, how good is it?
When I finish watching an episode, I often think to myself - "man, I feel sorry for those not watching this".
Looks like it's coming to a head, given that seasons are usually 23 episodes and we're up to 22 next week.
Love the multiple plot lines, character development etc... and then there's the way cool speculative fiction and politics thing going on.
Plus, I want to be a hero myself. Now if I can just think of my unique power...
I know, I can be the "Man who can complete his PhD without another extension and finally graduate in 2007".
That sounds pretty good to me!
How about you, Canuck, what's your power? Don't say if you don't want to be cured... |

As long as it isn't the least funniest post in the last month, I'm happy! |
