Hi all,
I've recently been offered a position at Ichinomiya, near Nagoya, Aichi. I was wondering if anybody has anything to say about any of these areas. I was hoping to be placed either somewhere rural or, barring that, in Tokyo, Kyoto, or Osaka, as I really wanted to be someplace with a strong character of Japan. Am I silly for thinking I may not get that in a place like Ichinomiya?
Thanks for your help!

Hey Dan,
Sorry to throw water on your fire here, but avoid ichinomiya! Nagayo is nice to have near by (for a night on the town or some serious shopping - also some nice gadget shops too) but ichinomiya is just a collection of shops/houses that has suddenly spuring up, next to a huge motorway; no character and probably not a good representation of Japan.
My friend lasted there 3 weeks - he found it that bad. Going 10/15 minutes north by train takes you to Gifu City which is a much nicer mix between "countryside and stuff you need".
That same friend moved to Gifu city and was there for many years.
PM me if you want more info on the area. Good luck. |
