as i will most likely be spending a good amount of time in BKK, would like some shopping advice. aware of the nite market deals, but more interested in the following:
1) tailor recommendations - got any? also, what do i need to be aware of when getting one tailored? what's the SOP for the whole she-bang? how much does an average one cost? any help at all is appreciated.
2) dental work - again, any recs? i wanna get teeth bleached. do they only work m-f? or weekends too? how much to expect?
3) eyeglasses - anything i need to bring, other than a spare set and a prescription? how much these run?
4) any place to do lane swimming? or get swimming lessons in (semi-fluent) english?
i have a few more questions, but sorta digging around for them at the moment. |

Ok tailors? you didn't say if your male or female. I dont go to tailors as a female as I dont think they are that good with womens clothes, had too many disasters made. I prefer dressmakers, theres a few around Expat web sites , like the british womens club etc are good sources for those
Dentists, I go to one here, but its an orthodontist and she aint cheap! But for bleaching, theres stacks of those around, that aren't that expensive.
Swimming lessons, have no idea, but I'm sure there is somewhere, again expat web sites are good. Just google thailand expats. |

1) Tailors: Check around Asok and Nana, there are simply loads along that area of Sukhumvit. Generally the busier places have better reputations, but may be more expensive. Agree a price before you make the deal (this is negotiable) and make sure you leave plenty of time for adjustments, as it's almost guaranteed that you'll need them!
2) Dental Work. Google it, seriously - and it IS cheap, and most of the practitioners were educated in the west. Many of my friends travel to BKK especially for dental work (also botox!)
3) Glasses - no idea, sorry
4) Swimming - there are pools all over BKK, for lessons I would try The British Club on Silom Rd. You may need to become a member first though, but all the staff are expats or fluent in English, and the pool and sport facilities are first class. |
