I'm moving to costa rica in june!!!! i've been doing research on phone service...or should i say the lack of phone service there. i'm trying to find the cheapest way i can get a phone. i will likely be making phone calls to the united states and i of course need to be able to receive and make local phone calls. i've heard its hard to get a land line or cell phone. i've also heard that getting vontage or skype may be the way to go. howerver, i've also heard horror stories about using internet phone service like those. anyone have any suggestions. i'm going to be on a very limited budget, so i would like to know what other peopel do. |

Getting a cell phone is hard. Getting a land line is easier, since you will likely have a landlord or lady to help you out. Skype is all good. What kind of horror stories have you heard about it? I use it several times a week and I've never had any trouble with it. |

Thanks for the reply well i guess "horror stories" is a little strong, but a friend of mine said they quote a low fee...$.02/min but then charge you a bunch of "hidden fees".
I'm wondering how easy it will be to find an internet connection. I know i won't have a problem in San Jose, but is there interent throughout the country....I'm trying to find a job outside of san jose.
thanks
here i come costa rica!!! |

Finding internet in all tourist places in Costa Rica (i.e. most of the country) is a breeze. Most jobs, as you probably already know, are concentrated around the San Jose/Central Valley area, but good luck in finding something outside. They do exist. |

No pre-paid stuff in CR, unfortunately. You can buy phone cards and use them with one of the million pay phones on the streets, though. |
