I thought that I'd pass this along: I was informed this morning by friends in the USA that the postal service will no longer ship parcels internationally by "surface mail"...only "air mail" will be available starting in a few weeks! The international air mail rates are much higher, so if you were planning on shipping items from the US it might be wise to check into this.
 I checked the website for the US postal service but the change was not mentioned there...

 My sister confirmed what I was initially told: the US Postal Service will cease shipping "economy parcel post" (surface mail) parcels to Asia on 14 May.
 if you are a USAnian who needs something shipped over, get it done soon- the rates will easily double!!
