Does anyone have information on Canadian-American Language School or American Eagle School in Hsinchu? I'm looking into both schools but can't find any information from fellow teachers. Any help would be great! |

AES is a fine facility. They had a couple of suspect managers there about 5 years ago adn if they are still there, I'd avoid the place. You work long hours for average pay, but you get a good compensation package. You can live on their campus, but think small dorm room. Hsin Chu is pretty cheap and I'd advise getting out of the dorms and on your own ASAP.
You may have read about a big battle at the place (between foreign staff and ownership)5 or6 years ago, but let me say that the foreigners were 95% at fault, so read their gripes with a grain of salt.
As far as 1st year placements go, you could do worse.
CAS I know of, but not much. An old colleague of mine worked there for 3 or 4 years and, by all accounts, was pretty pleased with the place. More, I know not.

If possible, I'd advise you not to live in Hsinchu. The Science Park has made rents higher there than most other cities in Taiwan, except for Taipei. We paid 17,000 nt a month for a 2 1/2 bedroom 1 bath apartment. Now we live in Taichung, and pay 10,000 a month for a 3 bedroom, 2 bath apartment, and personally, I think Taichung is a much better city to live in than Hsinchu. |
