Anyone out there work for Georgal Idiomas at 493 Avenida Barranco de la muerto in Mexico City? Were there any problems in working for them? Heard anything bad or good about them? Honest or problematic? Good people or prickly?

I spent my first 4 years in Mexico at Georgal Idiomas!

There is good and bad.

Good

They are professional, insisting on presenting a good image via dress code (shirt & tie for men). The company has been established for 18 years and is a "real" company with specific HR, accounts, acc. exec. people etc. They pay a good hourly rate by payroll with full legal rights (aguinaldo, PTU, INFONAVIT, etc), and monthly performance bonus, all paid on time and without fail. They have many blue-chip companies as clients. They don't require teachers certificates.

Bad

The bonus is linked to many factors, including the lesson plan, achievement of targets, student evaluation and company surpervision, which, in the opinion of many teachers, can mean focusing on your bonus, rather than giving the best to the student. The turnover of teachers is high even for this industry; that could be seen as good or bad. It is tough, which could be seen as a challenge and they do have some teachers with 10 or more years service. I found a bit of elitism among the admin staff, but that could just be some individuals, and the growing size of the company. They talk the talk about team work, but don't always walk the walk.

In summary, if you are offered a job, take it and see how it goes. I had some great times there, and when I went back recently to deal with some paperwork, a little part of me missed the place.
