Hi there,
Have put a similar post on the chile board so sorry for any repetition!
I just want some general advice, I am about to graduate from uni and want to have a year or maybe six months out before looking for work in London. I am interested in teaching, not to make extra money necessarily, but to get by, improve my Spanish and just have a good experience. I have some TEFL experience, but no formal qualification. I am interested in a programme like the ones Teaching Chile, Alliances Abroad or CEII offer, however as a UK graduate Im not sure if I am eligible for these?- on CIEE's website on one page it states you must be from the States or Canada. Basically would like to hear from any brits out there who have done any of these programs or something similar. Does anyone know of anything like this in Peru? as I have travelled there and really enjoyed it, but not sure I would be able to get short term work..Maximo Nivel looks quite good, as they seem to do six month contracts and have quite good reviews on here, but am just really unsure..basically any advice would be great. |

HI, WElcome to the boards. Overall in Peru it is difficult to get a job which will secure you a work visa. Some exceptions are smaller universities, like the University of Piura, and schools, which start in Feb. There are some volunteer programmes as well. FOr contact info, see the LA Job List. Or you can either border hop every few months or enroll in a SPanish language course and get a one year student visa.
About the programmes you mentioned, I personally think that they charge a lot of money for what they offer, though it may be an option for you. Check out www.teachabroad.com , www.volunteerabroad.com , www.peruincasexplorer.com/en/texts/41 and http://web.imige.cz/followyourdreams/index.htm
About Maximo Nivel, read the sticky on the Peru forum, I know that they have a high turnover, if you want emails of former and current teachers, let me know.
If you have specific questions about Peru, feel free to PM me and be sure to read all the stickies on the Peru forum and the Ultimate Peru List. |
