It's truly amazing the number of people planning on visiting Indonesia and other countries, who have not read a single book on the subject, or even browsed the Internet.
Could I kindly suggest to those planning to visit the other side of the world for the first time, to do some research and reading on the matter. "Lonely Planet" has excellent books with lots of clever suggestions, such as what to bring, and what immunisations ("shots") might be a good idea.
All this takes careful planning. I know that my hepatitis B shots were weeks apart.
The country has a big paper industry, and no, you don't need to bring toilet paper; in fact the Indonesians don't use it at all!
Judging by all the hype about the size of the average American 'foot', yes, it might be a good idea to bring your own condoms. Indonesia only has an average 150mm/6 inch size on sale, as far as I know. |

I'm with you there.
It does surprise me (well, sort of) that, sometimes, people who are clearly using the web in order to access this forum, fail to hunt out the masses of information available online.
A few keywords typed into your fav search engine can produce so much more information than a thread here. On the other hand, you can get more specific stuff by asking for it here.
I would recomend prospective Indo teachers to find out as much as they can from the net and books and then ask for info here.
Don't forget to look back through previous threads because your question has probably been asked before.
The key, in my humble op, is Preparation, Preparation, Preparation. Find out everything you can and be prepared to adjust. Forget about toilet paper - hose your a*rse like the locals, much more hygenic.
BTW - You can buy Western 'doms in a lot of Pharmacist's - esp in mals. |

This is true BUT ... so many posts or threads get deleted from these forums that a comprehensive body of opinion never quite coalesces. Let's see how long this one lasts! |
