Is it very easy to pick up amazing second hand bargains in the KSA?
For example, electronic pianos nobodys wants any more, or graphics cards or CPUs?
Do your students just give you things they don't want any more if they are rich? |

Come on Yeehii, why don't you group all your questions in one shot, and post them in one thread, instead of using multiple threads!!!!!
Nobody in KSA will give you anything for free, except if you have Wasta! |

Oh, one thread, or many threads...
OK, I will try and answer that one: for a similar reason that the middle east has seperate forums for each country.
The vegetarian food question is a bit different from the computer one. Perhaps different/more people would be attracted to / comment on less generic threads.
But, for my own convenience, having everything in one thread would be great.
But back to computers... and free stuff! |

There is a large market in second-hand English teachers. Tend to be pretty clapped-out though. |

I know all about the 500 Club, but really. Coming here with the intention of scrounging cast-off electronic equipment from students? That surely must be a new low, though maybe not.
Quite apart from the fact that accepting 'gifts' from students is against the policy of most colleges. |

Depends where you are. There was nothing for sale on my compound when I first arrived here. The only thing I got second-hand was my car.

I disagree. Discrete posts with relevant/meaningful titles is the way to go. |

Ah the truth comes out Van. You're not really a member of the 300 club. Which devout member would spend money on a car? Come on. 'fess up |

It is a secret society. A bit like the Masons. Members are not allowed to spend more than 300 riyals a month. It used to be the 500 club but there was a splinter group who were not satisfied with the extravagance. Van claims to be a member of the 300 club but I suspect he is a wannabe.

What do people buy there? Isn't everything paid for by the company?
Perhaps it is on jaunts out of the country. Or do you need a car, even if you live in a compound? |

For those in the 300 club, as little as possible. Especially personal hygene products. |

Some employers still provide most of what employees need - accommodation, food, uniform. Outside military contracts this is less common than it was in the past. Some employees may be expected to pay for food and clothing. You can imagine the consternation this casues to serious 300 Club members !
Where I am we get free accommodation and utilities. We pay for telephone and we are obliged to feed ourselves. |
