| You can check out the Faculty of Letters (Kuliat al-Adab) at the University of Damascus. It usually has Arabic language courses for foreigners and they sometimes know of places to stay. My experience there was that everything worked by word of mouth, so most probably you'll have to check it out once you're there. Good luck! |

I stayed there last summer while I attended the language institute. You can start out at one of 2 hostels that are popular with Westerners; Al Rabie and Al hamarain. I had a single room at Al Rabie with a shared bathroom for 8.00 US per night. From there I met a guy who teaches English there who hooked me up with a Christian family in the Christian section of Old Damascus known as the Bab Touma / Bab Sharkie neighborhood.
Hope this helps. |
