Hi everyone. I'm no longer working for ABC language school in Harbin. I have moved to Xuzhou in the North West of Jiangsu Province. Well sorry to say, I now work for that Ef crowd. Its a new branch school, from what they tell me its been around since last November. The owners of the school are a young Chinese couple in their late 20s. They seem friendly enough, a likeable couple. Well tomorrow Im of to Shanghai to do some training at another EF school, and there I will meet up with Diederik Van Gorp the Academic operations Manager of English First.
The bottom line is I was not happy at losing so much money with ABC, and what made matters worse is my wife basically said its China and I should just wear it. She is Chinese of course. So fingers crossed, lets hope its not another one of those EF schools where trouble is just waiting round the corner. Its time for me to get down and do the best I can as a teacher and learn more about myself and look to the future.
Next year I will pursue my degree with Massey University which I will do online, as this will give me the tools in the long term to become a better teacher and/or find a new career.
In my view we as teachers should not pull each other down, as some people do in these forms but lift each other up and give encouragement and good advice when needed.
Cheers everyone and any thoughts are welcome. |

So it probably doesn't have the certificate required for hiring FT's yet, does it? If not, BE CAREFUL because you're working illegally (unless they can get you the FEC and the RPF). |

Your wife says that you should accept being treated like cr@p by employers here because that's China. I understand that - it's the norm for a lot (most?)of Chinese employees to accept conditions most of us would never accept back home because they have no choice. It's normal so she probably feels you should make the most of it and live your life in Harbin as best you can because every other job is the same. Maybe she doesn't fully understand yet though that you do have options and you don't need to live like the average Chinese family. I think you made the right move leaving ABC, if the new job at EF doesn't work out then you still have a lot of other options out there. Here's hoping it does work out though. Good luck. |
