Hi all..
I'm moving to Cadiz in Southwest Spain in September (am EU) and am considering doing a Trinity Tefl course which they offer over there. From what I've read on the forum so far, job prospects look a bit grim outside Barcelona and Madrid. What are my chances of finding work in Andalucia (Seville etc). Anyone worked there before?
Cheers

I think you've misread the forum then. In Valencia alone there are over 80 language centres listed in the paginas amarillas and many more which don't advertise. I'd say that even in Cadiz itself you'd have a very good chance of finding work. In a big city like Sevilla with an EU passport and TEFL cert it would be a question of shopping for the best deal not finding work. Try loquo.com nearer to the time. |

Thanks for the advise, jonniboy. I can breathe easier now. Are you in Valenca? |

No but I taught in Valencia for two years 2003-5 before coming to Latvia. Getting a job in Spain generally involves pounding the pavements CV in hand as few if any academies will employ teachers unseen from abroad. Alternatively you could try and build up a few contacts with other teachers already there (I got my first job after being recommended by a departing teacher that I'd befriended over a few beers) as networking is very important there. September is usually the best time for finding work with most academies starting their academic year around the last week in September. Good luck. |
