|
|
Turkey has 12% of the population in the obese range, which is just below the European average, but far better compared with the U.S. (the most obese nation), Mexico (suprisingly the second most obese nation in the world) and Britain (the world's third most obese country).
I was told Mexico has a huge problem with obesity because it (Mexico) has the highest per capita consumption of coca cola and soft drinks, and also because the poplulation in Mexico has switched to a convenience food diet, replacing the old 'rice and beans' fare which was typical and much more healthy.
Interesting to see Italy has a very low obesity rate (about 8%) but Greece has a significant problem with 22% of the population with obesity.
I now happen to live in a country (Korea) which along with Japan has the lowest obesity problem in the world at just 3% and I can see why from the meals we are served in Korea - Kimchi (a kind of fermented cabbage), vegetables and steamed rice, with very small quantitities of meats, and virtually no sugars - no cheese and dairy products.
It has been relatively easy for me to maintain my 1.87/73kilos frame in Korea.
Check out these stats.

Koreans 10-Times Slimmer Than Americans
By Kang Shin-who
Staff Reporter
A Web site graphic from popular blogger Wellington Grey, based on 2005 figures from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, shows that the number of obese Koreans is ten times lower than overweight Americans.
The graphic has proved incredibly popular with netizens as it gives a clear comparison of the obesity index among countries _ it shows the percentage of total populations (aged 15 and above) with body-mass indices (BMI) greater than 30.
Three percent of the Korean population are fat, the same as Japan. The United States topped the list with 31 percent followed by Mexico and the United Kingdom.
Western European countries generally showed a relatively low obesity rate alongside Asian countries. Nine percent of the population in France, Austria and Italy are overweight. In contrast, countries in the Americas and Eastern Europe have fairly higher obesity indices _ the Slovak Republic is 22 percent, while those of Hungary and the Czech Republic are 19 percent and 15 percent, respectively. Turkey is at 12%

What about Canada? How do they rate for fatness? The Virgin Islands? |

well, the virgin islands are islands, so they're exempt. but canada? they must have silver bullets, or garlic, or wooden stakes to keep the zombies away. i've never actually met a canadian, but that's the stereotype i've heard. |

I'm Canadian and I've found that carrying silver bullets, garlic, and wooden stakes only attracts cannibalistic (but thin) Americans who try to eat my fingers in bars. |

The hobbit is becoming distinctly rotund because he enjoys the food here too much ,much better than the stuff one used to get in the shire .
The hobbit feels ghost is talking through the orifice that he sits on too much . |

We're very sorry. We try to stop ourselves but we just can't help it!

I'm just here because I'm bored and cabin-fevered and have nothing else to do because I'm stuck at home still with a broken body (and tooth marks on my left hand)
Now how 'bout them moose? |

If it's any consolation, Ender's eating his own hand. It's probably good he has no teeth... |

Yeah, he texted me last night to apologise. I've never received a message apologising for biting me before. That was pretty cool. He has really fierce canines. Must have a good dentist |
