Hi,

As I have mentioned in another topic, my husband would like to do a TEFL but does not have much time. I have found a course that combines distance learning and practice where I live, can someone give me their opinion as to whether this course looks ok and would be accepted by employers??

The website is - http://www.tefltraining.co.uk/

Thanks

Danaliese

I don't know the organisation, but have just browsed their website, and have to say "depends on the employer."

It looks better than many distance qualifications. (in that it provides practice teaching possibilities.) I guess that if I were you, and your hubby can do the practice teaching part, I'd say that it's a lot better than nothing. (which is what a lot of online credentials are worth.)

Probably, and this is just my opinion, it's still not as good as some of the better-known onsite courses. A couple of reasons for this; One, the team teaching element. As team teaching is a rare situation where I'm working, I would be hesitant to give someone whose teaching practice was done in this way the same consideration as someone who taught "solo" on their practice teaching. (All other things being equal)

Secondly, and I'm hoping another poster will chime in on this, I'm not at all convinced by the "College of Teachers" accreditation/recognition. Not because it's necessarily bad, but because I don't know much about it, but have recently seen the name a lot, often attached to certificates about which I'm sceptical about.

So, what is the "College of Teachers?" Anyone?

Best,
Justin

I don't konw. Supposedly some UK based organisation that says that places are legit. I've seen some of their courses advertised in IATEFL, so maybe it is a leglit operation.

Anyone know for sure?
