I have been reading the forums for about a week and am interested in traveling to Mexico, specifically the Xalapa area, this summer. I am going to be posting my resume in that forum soon.

I have been teaching pre-K through 12 ESL in the public schools of Tennessee for going on my third year. School starts back July 31, 2007 so I have approximately a month and a half available to work in Xalapa starting on or about June 15.

I am choosing Xalapa and Veracruz because I have family friends there and want to be near them, so I am truly interested only in this area. Honestly!

I have a masters degree in Instruction and Curriculum and ESL (English as a Second Language) certification from an accredited university. (The undergraduate degree is in English/Journalism with a minor in Public Relations).

Is it too late to find something? I'd like to take a Spanish immersion class as well, perhaps.

So, if you would like to give me any advice you have relevant to my situation; I would appreciate it. I have a few burning questions and will try to respond to posts throughout this thread. We are having some internet outages in our area.

Thank you! I look forward to talking to you!
Very Happy

I am looking for good schools to contact if you know of any in the Xalapa/Veracruz area.

I hope to take Spanish immersion/teach EFL for the summer.
Thanks!

There really aren't a lot of short term opportunities in Mexico. The public school vacations are in July and August and the local Casa de la Cultura usually has special summer classes, you could approach one about giving English, but it would be as a volunteer, they generally only charge the kids materials fees. The Rotary Club also has summer English classes, but they bring volunteers from the US to teach those. There maybe a language school that offers a silimar short term summer classes--if not there should be! But I don't know of any to point you to.
If you're not willing or able to give Mexico more than a couple of weeks of your time, you should just stick to taking Spanish classes. You'll have a better experience that way.
Good Luck,

I just saw this ad that might interest you

http://www.esljobfeed.com/forum/index.pl?read=3768

not in Mexico, and it will certainly be hotter in those locations than in Xalapa in July, but the kind of thing you seem interested in.

What I didn't like about it was the asking for teachers "without a strong regional or ethnic accent" Rolling Eyes

i hope i have just found a connection-the president of the Xalapa chapter of the MEXTESOL organization. I have forwarded her my resume. It would be great to do both; spanish immersion and teach EFL. I will continue watching this thread or you are welcome to send me a pm if you have any more information.
Thanks.

O, and I just got off the phone with a friend that attended instituto oaxaca imersion and paid just $105 for week-to-week classes and $200 for one month apartment, (no AC). Laughing
