I have recently completed my interview process with Nova and all the while have noted my strong desire for a position in Nagoya/Aichi. They say that they can't guarantee a position in any certain place before I sign the contract. My interviewer mentioned that if I was placed somewhere I didn't like, it wouldn't be hard to transfer. However, I have a fiance in Nagoya so I pretty much *need* to be placed there. How likely do you guys think it is that I could be placed in that area?
Does Nova usually do a good job of honoring location preferences?
If I sign the contract then they place me in bumblef*** nowhere, would there be any way out of the contract? |

I was not placed in my first choice location, even though my first choice was Tokyo and there are tons of branches there and it's meant to be very easy to be placed there.
I was able to transfer with in six months. Everyone I know who wanted to transfer was able to (except for a handful of jerks who were disliked by the managers and RAAMS).
Did you tell them that your fiance is there? Don't just tell them it's your preference. Make sure they know that you have a serious reason for requesting Nagoya, and tell them the reason. Tell them you are willing to wait longer if it means getting there.
I'm not sure it will work at first. And I'm not sure what happens once they receive your signed contract and send the COE to Immigration. Maybe your fiance can stop by a branch in Nagoya and talk to the RAAM? Might be worth a shot. |

Nova will usually do their best to place you where you want to be - definitely let them know your reasons for requesting Nagoya though.
It's pretty easy to transfer between Nova branches but it will all depend on if they need teachers in the location that you want to go to. Everyone that I know has always transferred with no issues.
Also, there are no penalties if you decide not to come to Japan with Nova - even though you signed a contract with them. Worst case - you probably won't get hired by them in the future. Things come up all of the time that may prevent people from traveling.
Hope this helps |
