Hello forum members!!

I'm looking for teaching jobs in Mexico City, and I was wondering a few things.

How do the language schools there work? Insofar as sessions, that is. Are they mainly semester, trimester, etc.? When do the sessions generally begin?

I've been looking online on job forums, and I haven't found a whole lot for Mexico City. I imagine, though, that my opportunities would be greatly increased by actually going there to conduct the job search. I know this sounds like a stupid question, but *are* there many opportunities in Mexico City? I have a TESOL certificate from SIT and I did a lot of writing/English related work in college...From what I've been told that should be enough, but I'd also like to know what the reality is --ie, what sorts of certificates are preferred, etc.

Thanks for all the help!

Hello!

Most of the language schools seem to work on a four week course schedule. Some are longer. This allows the school to sell more courses and make more money. I have taught at Wall Street Institute and they use an open system. Students pay for a certain period of time(usually one year) and they can take as many classes as they want in that time.

There are way too many language schools to even try to list them all here. The large chain schools are always hiring and they provide their own training. These schools are really good for new teachers as they give structure and guidance. However more experienced and/or creative teachers can feel too restricted by a schools rigid methodology and coursework.

The best way to get a job in Mexico City is to hit the ground and just start going to schools in areas of the city you would like to live. There are more jobs in Mexico City than anywhere else in the country. Almost every school will want you to come in person before they will even think about a job offer. Most of the schools that advertise on Dave's and elsewhere are in smaller communities or rural locations. There are enough qualified Mexicans in DF to fill many of the jobs. Don't get me wrong, being a "native" goes a very long way here. Also check El Universal newspaper on-line: http://www.veempleos.com.mx/ or pick up a copy anywhere. Sunday is the best day to buy it. Their are also job listings on the various Mexican job web sites found in the Mexican Job links Sticky at the top of the Mexico forum.

If you have a TEFL that is enough to get a job. If its not from a school in Mexico be sure to get it apostilled before you go.

I hope that helps some.

Good luck!
