Incredible job offer:

Teaching 15 hours a week-exam classes for 9 weeks.

Now I make that at least 50% of a full time teacher's salary, possibly even more yet the salary is pro rata just barely over 5,000 pounds plus monthly bonuses (no mention so must be small) What do they pay full timers 11,000 a year?

Without knowing all the details it looks like it could be your maths.

15 hours * 9 weeks = 135 hours. 5000/135 = 37 per hour.
Full time teacher - say 30 weeks at 24 hours a week = 26K - all approximate.

Having just looked at the ad on tefl.com it's not very clear, is it? Typical obfuscatory advert designed to disguise the pathetic hourly rate, if it's similar to others on TEFL.com! I may be wrong, so best contact them direct for more details, if I were you.

It is definitely not 5 grand plus bonuses for a 9 week course. They are trying to pay what they were advertising last year for part timers and that was 100 quid a week for 15 hours a week teaching -only now they are hoping that the dossers they get are so crap that they cannot work out that they are earning six fifty per teaching hour. Oops do not forget the bonus.

Thanks for that clarification Harry. Yes, I remember that ad last year. No interest in any of them from the point of view of needing them, but it's good to have a chuckle now and again, and ponder who in fact takes these jobs!

Don't suppose they'll be increasing the rate now that minimum wage has just gone up? On that pittance I suppose they also point out that you don't pay tax: below the minimum threshold!

I suppose the bonuses are if you last more than a few weeks, and anybody with any intelligence won't.

No-you have to do the whole month for the bonus-saves on paying out bonuses.

They will get:

Illegal Americans, South Africans...
Postgraduates desperate for a few quid
Backpackers
TEFLers on working holidays back home

Need I go on. They obviously get them on they would have had to up the money.

There are, of course, alternatives:

True. I worked there. They pay 20 quid per one and a half hour class so you do the maths. Nice place to work though, especially the one in Bayswater.
