Hey all,

This isn't specifically about teaching, but might be of interest to teachers in Russia (or those who might be coming).
I'm thinking of taking that big leap and buying a dacha. I've seen them around here for between 20,000 and 200,000 rubles (depending on location and "amenities" of course). I'm thinking of getting one somewhere in the middle of that range.
Has anyone bought a dacha? What are the pitfalls of taking this step?
I've wanted a dacha since moving here, and can't get it out of my system!

Input appreciated!

I think there are big problems with foreigners owning property here. You would need your Russian wife, if you have one, to do that sort of thing. However, a notary assured me that is such situations, even though the spouse bought the property, you have a legal right of half-ownership in the event of divorce, or whatever, as a spouse of a citizen.

Why would it be necessary to buy a dacha when you could probably lease one much more easily.

In Tomsk, the lady I lived with had a dacha for the family. It was mostly a garden shed where you could sleep, I suppose. The family used the quarter acre for a subsistence garden. All the dachas in the area were like that. I don't suppose that is what you are talking about?
