So the Lonely Planet Middle East doesn`t include the Gulf, and the Arabian Peninsula guidebook is from 2004. I`m going to Oman for 2 months and want to buy a guidebook, though preferably something I can use for travelling around the region after my job finishes rather than several separate ones. Anyone have a recommendation? Are there shops that sell Rough Guides, Lonely Planets etc. in Muscat (or if not, maybe Dubai)?
Or, anyone who is there (and has been long enough not to depend on their Lonely Planet or whatever) want to lend me theirs for a couple months this summer? I have several to trade! |

Xanthippe, I believe there is a new LP entitled Oman and the UAE or something of the sort. Things do change very quickly, so the 2004 Arabian Peninsula edition could be alarmingly out of date for the big cities.
The best guidebook, especially if you will be living here for two months, is the Explorer guide.
Feel free to PM me if you want to do a trade for summer. |

Once you get there, you can get all the usual guidebooks and some very good local guides. They are carried in all the bookstores and the hotels.
