Hi
I have an interview for a non-teaching position with the HCT's at AD Women's College later on this week. I am trying to gather some information about living in Abu Dhabi as working there will require that I relocate my family.
Can anyone describe what typical housing is for a family (4 children) and also where this housing is likely to be? I am trying to sort out which schools would be in the vicinty as I understand it is hard to get children into schools and that it is advisable that you live near your child's school. My children wil be going into grades 2, 5 and 6.
Do you have any input into where you live?
Thanks

HCT's housing tend to be spread out all over town. I expect that the only people that can answer your question is the Housing Department at Central Services. Try giving them a call.

When you look for accommodation, try to be realistic about what you can get with the HCT allowance. There is a rumour that they are relocating staff into a new block of apartments which sounds positive. If you want to find somewhere to live that is not too far from a school, look around 23rd - 31 st street whcih is nearish to the British School and the American International School. Get the names of your children registered asap as there is a long waiting list for them. |

Housing --- generally spacious flats (20000 + square feet). However, the configuration is not geared toward families, as much as social space. Most flats have enormous dining rooms and living rooms.
You're not going to have many options for housing --- someone will drive you around in a car -- might give you 2-3 options on a good day. You'll need to pick a place that day. It's a little shocking --- but remember - you can go find your own next year.
Be forewarned that due to a significant housing crunch in AD, rents are rising faster than housing allowances. It's possible that you will be asked to make up the difference out of your own pocket. |
