I'm moving to Spain as a "language and cultural assistant" in October and wanted to know how people found the places where they live. I plan on renting out a room in a shared flat with Spaniards, but I would even be open to living as a boarder with a Senora. Pretty much anything cheap that will stick me in a house with Spanish speakers. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm moving somewhere in Andalucia, but I haven't been notified as to where yet.
Are there any classified ad sites you can suggest (like the Spanish version of Craigslist)?
Thanks!!!

Hi- I know that many people have had success on www. loquo.com - - I'm not sure of exactly what areas it covers or doesn't cover in Spain but you can give it a try.

yep Loquo is about the best site here for just about everything Laughing - be warned though as almost all rooms go as soon as they are advertised, you might be best putting an ad on yourself. Though if you can wait until you get here to look, you can always put up ads in the shops etc

Try Segundamano, too. Like LoQuo, the site has adverts for just aboou all locations in Spain. However, unlike LoQuo it's only available in Spanish:

It's important to remember that people very rarely want to rent a room in their apartment out to someone they have never met before, so it's really quite tricky to find accommodation before you arrive.

I'd actually even go so far as to say that I'd be a bit wary of the sort of person who would do so as perhaps their room is a little difficult to rent out for whatever reason, or they are not interested in having any contact with the person they rent to.

Possibly a good strategy is to use Loquo and Segundamano to get an idea of the sort of prices to expect in whatever area you are going to, and then arrange a hostel place for a week in advance and look from there once you are on the ground and have a mobile phone number.
