you have the required MA, time to pound some pavement. timing is everything. read the papers, read the internet ads, do cold callls. you never know who needs what.

i used to teach at university here. it SOUNDS better than teaching children but for me, the reality wasn't the same. kiddies pay better, are more enthusiastic and extent of progress is discernable. the uni. treated english class as the equivalent to a throw-away elective. the students knew this and reacted accordingly. if you want to teach preoccupied, sullen young adults then a taiwan uni. slot is out there waiting for you.

There are 2 kinds of positions at universities in Taiwan. I presume that you mean you want a faculty appointment, and not the other type of positions that are often described as 'university teaching' in Taiwan. Killian is right that these other appointments can be terrible and not worth the effort is takes to do the job. A faculty appointment, on the other hand, is a dream come true.

There are several postings on Dave's Job Information Journal about looking for jobs in Taiwan. There are also a number of Websites that you can find in Job Links that will help you. Actually, there's a lot of help available if you look around. The main problem is that most of the positions that pass for 'university teaching' are simply terrible, and the available faculty positions are extremely competeive.

University jobs are available to both M.A.s and Ph.D.s, although Ph.D.s are usually preferred.

If you can read some Chinese you might try these links:

http://www.104.com.tw

http://www.nyc.gov.tw

On that last one, you should look for their university job posts page.

Also, this page has a lot of job links:

http://www.geocities.com/allhou/teachlinks.htm

though, not many university jobs are to be found there.

Ah, don't blame yourself Mozilla. I've found that Taiwanese Universities very rarely post on the Internet. It really is best to have connections. I am doing the same thing you are and having been looking at several sites everyday for a University position with absolutely no success. I've been sending out blind letters to the different Unis, but so far that hasn't worked well either. If you are already in Taiwan, I would suggest just calling them up or doing a walk-in to find out what's available if anything.

There are several places you can look for university postings in Taiwan. You can find links to some of them at
http://www.eslcafe.com/jobinfo/asia/sefer.cgi?display:1037523749-14442.txt
http://www.eslcafe.com/jobinfo/asia/sefer.cgi?display:1046877271-44615.txt
I also run Scott Sommers' Taiwan Weblog
http://blogs.salon.com/0002422/
where I posted the addresses for universities that have put ads in Taiwan newspapers.
