What were you hoping to buy?
It can be as cheap or expensive as you want it to be. Are you in Istanbul or in Van? Are you in a restaurant with table cloths and waiters or in a kebab shop? Are you eating Turkish food or an attempt at foreign food? It's very variable. You could easily spend it all in one go. Or not. |

for 50 US you can get Doner sandwich, a can of Efes extra, a packet of Maltepe cigarettes and a hand-job from a man dressed as a lady and still have enough change to get the last ferry back to skdar.
Now that's what I call a value night out |

You could live on lentils, potatoes, water and dner for a month. You would have to walk to work. Actually, there is a great little place in Kadikoy that does five for five. It includes a meat/chicken/fish dish, rice, salad, dessert and a drink. |

Dear love to wander: First ask yourself how far would 50 US dollars go ın America and you have your answer. I mean you could eat pasta with no sauce everyday not eat breakfast or lunch forget about transportation. This country aint cheap!!!!!!!!! Contrary to what other people may tell you Istanbul and Izmir are incredibly expensive relative to income. If you want to live something resembling a normal lower middle class existence you should should earn at least 2500ytl a month. Also prepare yourself for a shock when you look at prices for clothes or shoes or going to a decent bar for a cocktail etc.. all of these are much more expensive then North America. I cant speak for Europe. Forget about a car and gas immediately! Turkey is a price shocker. |

I stumbled into a place in Beyoglu a few weeks ago. It's the street after buyukparmak sok. They only have beans, chick peas, rice and soup. But evrything costs 75 kurus. That's cheap.
red beans and rice. Michael Franti(sp?) even wrote a song about it. anyone got a copy they can send me. I've kind of lost mine |

Hi all,
Thanks for the info, was just trying to get a rough idea of pricing there.
I will be in Istanbul , so was just trying to figure out costs before I leave Bangkok.
Clothes expensive? Wow had no idea about that, thought they would not be too bad there. Better stock up before leaving Thailand:{
Thank you all for the info and luckily wont be in need of the hand job lol. |

Clothes aren't necessarily expensive. I've found a lot of excellent things in the bazaars and regular shops here and they really vary in price--- you can get recognisable brand names in high street shops or malls for stupidly exorbitant amounts of money, or you can scour the pasajs, the bazaars, the small boutiques, the tailors... They can be quite good and quite cheap. |

Yes, but you generally have to be the Turkish body shape, or just thin, to find something that fits in the pasajs. And sometimes they're not great quality. |
