Has anyone seen this in the TDN? I saw it this morning for the first time. It has intermediate readings with glossaries for such words as help, world record, syrup and health. Shouldn't elementary students have this vocab or at least be able to deduce based on L1? Also, don't they know that town names don't use a definite article? Yaramaz you are our EF spy. Who writes this? It's rubbish.

It's a bunch of teachers (including *ahem* myself) and a Turkish editor who have been doing it. Well, actually, the teachers are sent some news articles from AP and Reuters etc and are asked to simplify the language to certain levels. That's what I do. The glossary thing is a bit odd and I don't know who chooses the words-- when I adapted the articles I was sent, I wrote as if it didn't need a glossary. I didnt even know there would be one. And I do know about using articles with towns so I have no idea who gets the final edit. I just scale it down so that elementary students don't have to wade through present perfect continuous and ten layers of idiom to understand the gist.

*feeling rather embarrased now*
