So finally... I'm on my way down there...
Well not on my way literally, but I've secured a position in my city of choice (Torreon) and to be the best teacher I think I need to do a little bit of training.
Given my circumstances, I can't run off to Prague to get a CELTA or go get a MA... but I want to have a certificate program completed before I get off the plane in the desert.
Since I've already got the job lined up I won't be needing any job placement services, so I'm really only considering what will leave me most prepared given that I've only got two months and need to continue to work full-time.
Any thoughts from the Mexico board? Have you seen anyone come down well prepared with a BA and an online Certificate?

An online certificate won't give you the teaching practice needed to feel comfortable in front of a class and that's important. And you may have a tough time getting a long distance certificate apostilled for Immigration purposes.
How about volunteering to assist in an ESL classroom in your area (in your off time) and then getting a letter from the teacher outlining your performance. Or at very least asking to sit in on some ESL classes as an observer. That wouldn't cost you anything. Good luck with whatever you decide. |
