Hi-I am really keen to get some life/work experience to support my politics degree and help with future applications for development sector roles. It seems to me that ESL teachers work around 25 contact hours a week. I am wondering how much free time this leaves-I am used to 45-hour working weeks in the UK, plus normally 7-10 hours travelling a week (sucks).
How long (on average for a Newbie) does teaching prep take a week? (I imagine it will vary depending on the school/common resources) It seems like I will have loads of spare time for volunteering etc, but I assume teachers are expected to supplement contact hours with lots of preparation. Is this something that gets less and less as you build up your own lesson plans/resources?
I would also love to hear about any development related Volunteering/ Journalism/ NGO/ research opporunities anyone can recommend.
I am also thinking of doing some personal research into press-freedom, democracy movements etc-is this the sort of thing that could land you in a police cell? Long-term?
As always-I'm doing plenty of research myself, but ground level input is always the best source of reliable info-cheers guys |
