Hi there. I have recently been accepted as an ESL teacher with Santis in Mongolia. Does anyone have any experience with them?
I was also wondering what the average work week was there? They have mentioned that I would be required to put in 30 contact hours, something that seems quite high to me and in the end it's classes that suffer.
Any info would be great.
Thanks in advance.

I find something strange about that because it was my understanding that Santis is only open 4:00 Pm to 9:00 five days a week. Thats only 25 hours max, maybe I misunderstood something. Anyway, how much did they offer? I have 10 hours a week at $300 per month. Pretty good I think, I'm also going to the University to study Mongolian.

Hello,

I was a teacher at Santis in 2006 and along with a number of teachers, around 15 of which walked out during the 4 months I worked there, suffered a great deal during that time.

First of all, I get off the plane at 3:45am from London via Seoul, and get takne to a hostel, at 11:00am I'm taken to Santis and meet Orgilmaa Dolgoo "You have to remember I'm the boss around here Damien." And it grew gradually worse from there on in. The school claims to be one of the highest paying schools in the country, when in actual fact they pay less than any of the very poor state schools, by poor I mean they have no money.

They treat all their teachers like slaves and recently fired one teacher who had refused to work Saturdays after doing it for almost a year, which is also supposed to be optional and withheld her pay and flight money.

They pay $600 pm for a 30 hour week. When i left I went to work at a Russian run state school that pays $800 pm + overtime for 14 hours a week. If you do leave you'll have your work visa cancelled and they will try and deport you, Orgilmaa's brother is leader of the Socialist party in the Mongolian Government and has alot of friends at the english newspapers, and so has a bit of clout, as corruption in Mongolia is basically endemic. This happened to me and alot of other good people.

There are alot of very good paying schools in UB few of which advertise on the internet here are a few:

Hartford (part of the Raffles group from Singapore) $2,000pm 30 hrs pw.

International School of UB $2,000 pm 30hrs pw.

American School of UB $2,000pm 30hrs pw.

success language institute, 10,000 tugrik ph as many or as few hours as you want to work. run by Nymkha a very good woman to work for and very helpful if you even if you don't.

No 3 school Joint Russian Mongolian state school from Elementary to high school age. $894 pm 14.5hr pw. + free accomodation.

You can visit Mongolia on a 30 day tourist visa find a job and your school can easily have this turned into a work visa for a small charge.
