Has anyone used a web advertised Z Visa service? I live in the US and am not located close to a Chinese Embassy. I know the safest way to probablly go is through the embassy but I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with obtaining one off the internet. Thanks!

I've never seen such a thing and i don't know how this can be accomplished through the internet because the consulate needs your passport (among other things).

Can you post a web address for such a service?

If you mean a travel document service, these businesses merely walk your paperwork into the consulate and then mail your passport with the visa back to you, thereby saving you the trouble of having to travel to your nearest consulate. I've used TDS a few times and have had no problems.

These are simply companies that provide the physical labor of going to the embassy/consulate and doing the work for you. Be sure you choose a place that is properly licensed and bonded. You still do the work of getting the letter of invitation, filling out the application, and so on - then you mail all the documents to the company with the necessary fees, AND PASSPORT and they physically go and do bulk work at the consulate or embassy and return the passport to you via the mail system.

It's perfectly legal and generally safe so long as you choose a licensed and bonded company - and accepting the risk of loss of your passport in the mail process.

I've used Travel Document Services for obtaining Z visas from the Washington, D.C. Chinese consulate. Just make sure that you get your paperwork processed at least two weeks before your departure. That will allow for scr*w ups. The last time I applied for a Z visa, the Chinese consulate misspelled my name on the visa and I sent it back to TDS and the Visa was overnighted to me (at TDS' expense).

I have used China Visa Service and they handled everything quickly and efficiently. My husband and sons have also used them several times with no problems. In the US the application for the visa must be submitted in person.. but it doesn't have to be by the person applying for the visa. There aren't that many Chinese consulates around so visa services are a big help to folks who live far away from a consulate. Spring for the overnight delivery service, it's worth it.

Just as someone else mentioned, you need to submit all of your documents such as the invitation letter. Your school should send all the documents to you and then you send them to the visa service along with your application, payment, and passport.
