I'm moving to HK in the next few months with my wife for a teaching position. We have a budget of about 4k to spend on rent a month. Is there anything decent we could get for that?
Obviously we'd like to leave as close to the centre of the action as possible. We'd only need a one bedroom, but we don't want a closest. I know this isn't a lot of information to go on, but is this a realistic amount?
We just don't want to leave in the hinterlands, and we don't want (as I said) a cramped little dirthole. |

$4000 isn't really a lot for HK. You'd probably be looking at something around 500 square feet on HK Island, which is definitley shoebox territory.
$4K would get you something larger on the outlying islands or the New Territories, which isn't neccesairily a bad thing. Bear in mind that Hong Kong is small and the transport links are excellent - you can get pretty much anywhere in the territory within an hour.
You should also bear in mind that you don't want to be too far from where you work.
But if I were you, I would increase your budget to around $7000 - this would give you many more choices. |
