I wonder if anybody in this forum is working with the University of NIZWA, can provide me with information concerning the following:
1. Location of the university in Nizwa city.
2. Do they have any sport centre?
3. Any information concerning hotels in Nizwa.
4. How far is Nizwa from Muscat and Dubai?
Thank you for any useful information. |

I don't work at Nizwa University, but I know it's a bit of a drive from here (there are two colleges in Nizwa as well). I think it's about 20 kilometres from the centre Nizwa to Nizwa University.
There is a sports centre/stadium, but when I tried to get in I was stopped at the gate. I've never been able to work out why it's not open to the public. There are two decent hotels in Nizwa with pools and small gyms, though.
Muscat is 160 km from Nizwa. It's motoway all the way and the drive takes about 1 hr 30 minutes. Dubai is about 400 km from here and it takes about 4-5 hours to drive there, depending on the traffic and the border crossing. |

Sorry this is such a late comment, but my friend works at the uni, and I recently visited her in Nizwa.

I would say a couple klicks away from the town centre...I believe it's the exit before from the main road.

There was a sports centre nearby, though my friend has never used it.

I believe there are only two hotels in Nizwa. They were nice...nice pools, gym area, decent food. You can expect to see all your colleagues there pretty much every weekend.

About 90 minutes drive from Muscat. From Dubai, about 500 kms. I drove from Dubai to Muscat, and then later down to Nizwa, but Nizwa-Dubai direct is about a 4.5 hour drive. |

I had a strange experience with them about a year ago. They were recruiting, I applied, and after some e-mails and telephone calls they sent me an offer. I accepted subject to seeing the place and meeting the people in person and agreed to visit in August at my own expense, provided they would cover accommodations, and they agreed to that. But then communications lapsed, my file seemed to get passed around from one person to another, and in the end I never did go. My impression was that they -- or at least the HR people -- were not very professional or well-organized. It's just my impression. I'd be interestsed to read comments from someone who did hire on there. Did I miss a good bet? |

I think when you were going to visit, they were changing hands from running the ESL programme through ELS to the uni, who is now hiring the teachers directly. My friend, who had been offered a job (was working for ELS) directly from the uni didn't get her contract sorted out until right before school started last year. They're not particularly organised, but my friend is happy enough there. Things might have settled down. I've been to Nizwa myself. if you'd like to PM me, I can give you details of the town, show some photos, etc. |
