BAE would like me to fly to sunny England for a interview. I'm based in Asia and currently earn about half of what I'd make with BAE (salary-wise not including benefits).
They (in UK) sent my stuff to KSA and thus, the company would like to interview me in Preston. All well and good but I've heard of people going there, having a great interview and then hearing nothing.
It wouldn't be cheap to fly to Blighty for a chat but the thought of getting into BAE, working there (in KSA) for a few years - stashing away the loot is appealing.
The company doesn't seem to give out much info pre-interview so I don't really know that much. I'd like some advice as you are in KSA already... what do you think? |

Surely they will take care of ticketing.
This is a 'no-brainer.' Go for the interview. The worst-case scenario is you get a free jaunt to Old Blighty. |

Thanks for the reply Mr Van Norden.
Actually they haven't mentioned paying for my fight (from Thailand) just "...when are you next in England? Let me know and we can arrange an interview/things accordingly". Not an exact quote but much the same. This suggests that I'd be paying for my own flight although I'm sure they'd fork out for the expenses in the land of fish & chips.
If they said they'd pay - then of course it's a no-brainer! Who wouldn't take a 'free' trip to the land of sunny Blighty?
I'm asking would you pay your own way (if they didn't offer)?
Might be worth it just to remind myself of why I left... |

I'm told they get about 250,000 per annum by having you on the ground in KSA. They'll pay. You might have to broach the topic, but they'll pay. Be a bit more assertive. |

Why go all the way to Preston. Why not meet them halfway in Bahrain ? For them a quick drive over the Causeway from Khobar. |

The hiring is done from the UK. Same for plenty of Gulf jobs - even if you live next door you still have to fly back to your home country for the interview. |

As I understand their hiring system, phone interviews are sometimes used - often followed by a long wait
Is there anyone out there presently working with BAE, or who has worked with BAE in Saudi Arabia, who is willing to talk about the job and facilities on the compounds?
No?
No one?
An unforthcoming bunch!
I guess it was an act of pure, naive optimism to have posed the question in the first place. |
