Here's a school you may want to consider. I worked there for three years and left them two years ago.

The owners are a British man and his Indo-Chinese wife. The company has two Native-speaker schools and two local-teacher schools, all in the Bekasi area.

FBI does in-company work for companies like Mattel, Al-Azhar, Dale Carnegie Training Center, LG-Phillips and more. All of this work is voluntary and is paid above the normal rate (which is probably about Rp 8,000,000 now). It is paid at a higher rate of pay, too, for some companies.

Most of FBIs classes are in the evening between 2-9, although there are sometimes Saturday classes and (rarely) morning classes.

At the time I worked there, the company helped to get you a nice place to live in upscale Kemang Pratama. You'd repay their kindness from your salary each month. The other benefits are nice, and include insurance, sick leave, vacation time, etc.

If you only work the 99 required hours, you get the basic pay of 8mil. That's 5 days out of a M-Sat week (your choice).

You can increase your salary by offering to take on morning classes and in-company classes. I earned up to Rp 12,000,000 by doing that.

You rarely, if ever, are asked to take any work home. You don't have to attend open houses and such, although there are events for PR.

There are weekly meetings with snacks provided before classes start. They're not always useful and don't expect the boss to actually accept what you suggest.

The DOS is a decent guy but he has made up his mind, so don't push him - even if he asks for suggestions. He's under a lot of pressure with four locations, so sometimes his decisions aren't wise, but he has a good heart.

The biggest drawback for me, other than an over-stressed boss, was the fact that many of the books used were more than 20 years old. When I was there, we were trying to help him modernize, but it was slow work. However, the work was easy for me.

Students were usually nice kids, but there was some teens and adults. The classes include computer time twice a week. Some classes come with pre-made lesson plans to help you but you can follow the schedule that you feel is best.

The schools are run on the standard 4-term scheme, but not on a semestral basis.

That's about it. I hope it helps.

Not a good rate of pay for 99 hours of teaching.

At the time that I was there, it was certainly a good rate for a language school - better than other ones I looked at. In addition, Bekasi wasn't as expensive as Jakarta. Plus, if you added in the regular availability of OT, it works out well for someone who has no take-home work.

Let's not forget that the salary was periodically increased.
