It's this weekend. Worth a visit if you have the time.

I witnessed a very ugly incident last night.... well ok it was about 5 in the morning. I was down at the bottom of Istiklal sitting on the street having a beer with a bunch of people from all over the place.

opposite us there was a Peruvian band playing music. suddenly a police van turned up. around 10 policemen jumped out and weilding batons proceded to beat the sh*t out the musicians. The musicians ran off and the police gave up the chase after about 10 metres...(lazy asshol.es) They then got back in the van and drove off. WTF Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Go Turkey... you can join the EU!!!

Turkey will get into the EU when I get into the College of Cardinals. The first Rangers Fan to be selected for that august body.

Actually, I've never seen those pan pipes in Istanbul before- probably the only major city in the universe where they haven't become part of the regular background. They actually drew crowds when performing over the weekend, which rarely if ever happens in more jaded cities. And the Hare Krishnas too. They had a board up with the lyrics and people in the crowd were singing along happily to the nice, catchy tune.

Very Happy

Poor Peruvians though. That's not nice. Why were they beaten???
