I am interested in doing the Ban Phe TEFL, has anyone done it? It combines a 4 month teaching contract with it and you get paid 30,000 baht. However, the classes are 40-55 students! Is that unusual for Thailand? I have some teaching experience in the U.S. and teaching that many students seems to much. If anyone has any info I would appreciate it. |

Large classes are not unusual in Thailand - nor in Korea or China for that matter.
Part of a good TEFL course should/would be to teach you how to teach classes of that size. Since TEFL Int'l's contract includes teaching classes of such size - I would guess that they will teach you how to do that. Ask them if you are not sure. |

At Thai government schools (a.k.a. public schools) 40 to 50 (sometimes even 60) kids is common.
In large classes, there's usually a Thai teaching assistant to help prevent total anarchy.
At private schools and English language schools, classes are much smaller, btw.
You'll be OK for 4 months.
Think of it as survival training;
what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Class sizes at private language schools are considerably lower, 12 students for example. |

This is one of the best TEFL schools in Thailand.
I personally toured the campus, and worked with its graduates.
Compared to the students I worked with, who graduated from other TEFL schools in Thailand, they were better prepared for the real deal of teaching in Thai schools and teaching Thai kids and adults.
and the opportunity to explore Thailand. |

Thnx for the kind words, Duncecap. Grads of our schools spend over 8 hours teaching in real thai schools so they are very well prepared for the real world of teaching in Thailand.
