|
|
To elaborate a little more, would there be any opportunities for a 19-year-old with iT experience and a passion to teach to find work in Korea? I'm looking for a summer to summer "life experience" in a new country and culture; in essence, just something I'd really like to do before returning to school for another 4+ years.
Any personal experiencies and/or advice would be much appreciated!
- David
P.S. I have roughly $6,000 USD to invest in this 'adventure' ... perhaps a little something to help in getting situated while looking for work? Could I get by on this? |

They have very stringent laws and policies there. You'd be better off trying to get a gig as a bartender with your age. The problem is that everyone wants a BA, including immigration who lets you in. They check closely for fake BA degrees, and you're too young to have one.
I think there's a kind of program for summer camps where you can come in as an intern, but you won't make much money. But it'd be a foot in the door and then you could leave to Japan for a day and come back on a tourist visa and teach privately if you've been lucky enough to make any connections in the time you've been there. Your age is definitely working against you here. If you really want to teach, maybe you should consider going to university for a couple years and getting the right training, then you'd never have to sweat it over here. I've been here five years and love it.
Maybe try to find someone on the Korean part of this site that you can pm and privately talk to about working under the table. It's risky though. It's best to stay out of Korea, Japan, Thailand (from what I've heard), Hong Kong, and Taiwan if you don't have a degee. I don't know about China, Cambodia, or Laos. At these places though, you won't make any money that's worth anything outside the country. But you'll probably need a a fake degree. That's just my opinion. I'm sure there are others out there that would say give it a shot.
Good luck |
