Boo!
It's getting to be that time of year again when ghouls emerge and things go "bump" in the night. I'm an English teacher working at a private high school in Hokkaido, Japan. Luckily, I've got total creative freedom at my school so I've decided to take advantage of it and try my hand at a "Halloween Day" at the end of next month to expose my students to a little American Culture. I'm planning to have the students dress up and then we'll head to the auditorium to have a "fashion show" and play a couple of Halloween themed games. When I was brainstorming I decided that, instead of dressing up like ghosts and goblins, I'd like my students to dress up like ENGLISH WORDS. The words can't be too easy (dog, happy) and they can't be too difficult (piquant, conudrum). It's a fine line. I want them to be words that we, as English speakers, use a lot, but aren't incredibly basic or difficult. This activity will only involve my first year students (there's only 50 'cause it's a small school) so I'm looking for 50 good words that would be fun to dress up as. For example:
spicy
shiny
thirsty
plaid
etc.
Do you think it would be best to only use adjectives or should nouns and verbs be thrown into the mix too? Does anyone have any suggestions of other good "costume words" or sources where I could look for more info? Please rack your brains and send your thoughts my way. Thanks!
Hauntingly yours,
~Kooky Tanuki
P.S.- If you know of any great Halloween games, I'd love to hear them. I'm aleady planning on the toilet paper mummy game and the balloon pick-up game. Thanks! |

I suggest you post this in the Activities and Games section. |

Thanks for the tip Glenski. I've searched around a little bit but can't see to find the games section. I found the games archive in the "Idea Cookbook" but not a place to ask a question about games. Can you provide me with a link? Thanks in advance...
