Having a problem and would appreciate anyone's help: I have just quit my teaching job here in Taiwan for various reasons without having yet received my ARC. I actually have a resident visa, which I had to get at another country, since I had my work permit. I was given 2 weeks from the date of the resident visa to apply for my ARC with the school I was teaching for. I haven't yet done this--I was supposed to give the school my passport so that they can apply for my ARC--however I just quit without doing this yet. So I have a resident visa and no ARC. I am supposed to apply for my ARC by the 19th. I want to stay in Taiwan and work...but just for another school. I think I may have made a mistake quitting so early...I suppose I should have waited for my ARC to process and then have that transferred but I was so miserable in that other school I really wanted to get out right away. Ah! I hope someone can give me advice. I would hate to have to leave Taiwan. |

Yeah....this is tough....because your resident visa isn't worth much without a corresponding ARC....you may not have to leave, but from what you're saying and the timelines provided you may have to do a visa run.... |

There are a number of ways that your situation could go - some good, some bad.
Assuming that you left your current employer without giving one months written notice you could find that you get blacklisted by the CLA. If so then you will not be able to get another work permit to work in Taiwan. If your contract states a probationary period during which either party can discontinue the contract without notice then you may be okay, but if not then you could be in trouble here.
You could try and pre-empt your employer and see if you can get your ARC even though you have already left them. You just need the work permit documentation that you would have used to get the resident visa and the resident visa of course. If you can get your ARC then you may find that it will be much easier to add your new employer, rather than throwing everything away and starting all over again.
If you can't do that then you will have no choice but to start the process all over again. |
