Hi China Vets;

INTRO:

I understand this is not an optimum time due to semesters starting in Sept-Oct. However, I'm prepared to work at language mills or to do business classes, and line something up for the next semester.

FEEDBACK? Names of good schools or headhunters? I've done a lot of internet research, made some decent contacts, but there seems to be a lot of low-paying jobs in remote areas. It seems best to come and do the on-site interview thing, in hopes of negotiating a better package. Comments? Been told you can get 8000 or more at unis, and on the internet they seem to offer 4-6000 tops.

Do you get adequate medical insurance or is it possible/necessary to get private insurance?

How much prep time is typical with a uni job?

Any idea of airfares to Viet Nam?

I appreciate any tips you experts can offer up.

Dan Allan.

Not too many unis pay 8k., but with short hours you can top that up. Look at tech/vocational schools. The hours are longer though. You are advised to take out health insurance here unless your school gives you a comprehensive cover. Most just have a school clinic. Hospital stays are costly AND you've got to put cash up front.
Package tours from Shanghai to Vietnam are cheap[suggest you just use the air and accomm. portions though], don't know about scheduled fares, but bargains are rare. If you're teaching conversation [mostly the case] prep time is minimal. However, a writing class can take hours a week.
