I taught in Armenia in the Peace Corps a few years back. I would highly recommend it for a vacation. It is an absolutely beautiful country with the most hospitable people I've met anywhere in the world. It's also a very small country, so easy to see everything in just a few weeks.
I would particularly recommend the Tavush region northeast of the capital, and the Lake Sevan area as well. Transportation and language are barriers to deal with, but in my opinion part of the adventure. You get around the country in little mini-vans that slowly make their way along the winding mountain roads and along river valleys. It takes about 6 hours to get from Yerevan to the southernmost part of the country.
You will meet very few people who speak English, but once the vodka gets flowing, it's not much of a problem.
