After having done/been there thing in the last few months just be aware that a lot of those addresses may not pan out. Also, don't forget to check out the outlining districts (meaning other than district 1) because they're short of teachers. Cheers!

The best way to get a good and reputable teaching job is to just arrive in VN and network with FTs. Once you find few FTs in VN, you will definitely get plenty of low down on good and bad schools to work for.

i'm here in VN. I'm a Vietnamese American with a degree from Cal Berkeley and am TEFL certified. Yet, I cannot find a job. I'm only interested in working at night and during the weekends. Thanks for the tip.

I've been in VN for 11 days. I was interviewed by ILA but they told me I don't have enough experience. That was a total BS

I was interviewed by a white person at ILA. Do I go to the schools and ask for an interview? I sent alot of emails out last week, and am currently waiting for replies.

I got my TEFL certification at ITTT (class included theory and not practicum). If your school is looking for EFL teachers, please notify me. Thanks in advance for the kind gesture

Wow, you know it really does s__k this happens. I knew this American born Chinese girl, recent grad from U. of B.C. with focus on eductaion, just a charmer! Of course she looked Chinese, but she couldn't speak five phrases. Her family had been in Canada since grandma came over with grandpa nearly 60 years ago. She said very few in the family spoke good Cantonese, except for grandma and her mother's older sister.

So here this girl was, trying to get respect and teach in Guangzhou. And all the students she came in contact with liked her, it was the darn schools! They constantly gave her trouble for her salary, saying that the school advertised "foreign teacher" and she was Chinese. What idiots! She gave up after one semester and returned to Canada, very disheartened and for the first time I think, experienced discrimination--what a paradox!

I know in GZ that people with dark skin, Chinese or otherwise are considered to be "third class". I have a friend, masters degree in education from the US, African American, clever, polite and well spoken. And he experienced a certain amount of discrimination from not only the university he worked at, but from a fair number of his students. I currently live in Hawaii and being caucasion, I am experiencing some discrimination, because the Island is largely operated in the working and professional sectors by pacific Islanders, regardless if they are from Hawaii or not, so I am getting a first hand experience in this whole issue for the first time in my life as well!

Just hope all works out for you and anyone else who doesn't "look Asian/white/etc" out there....
