Dear biffinbridge,
" I didn't think the Americans had that kind of technology."
Well, after Philby, Maclean and Burgess, you don't really expect we're going to tell you ALL our secrets, now do you? OK - I'm NOT capable of " bi-location " ( though there are other posters besides myself who have more than one place listed ). And while Roswell, NM isn't too far away, I have no access to UFOs. The real reason both countries are still listed is - um, I forgot to chage it. Back when I was in Riyadh, I felt justified having the two because I spent about 2 1/2 months each year in the USA. But nowadays, looks like I'm back here for good ( or ill ), so I suppose I ought to omit Saudi Arabia.
Regards,
John |

Ah John, but your mind's still here!
(Problem is that they make you hand it in at the airport, but then when you leave for good you forget to pick it up again) |

Dear Stephen,
Well, of course - how could I remember to pick it up when I left, having no mind? No, actually, I didn't take my mind over to the Kingdom with me - I mean, not only would it have been useless there, but I imagine I wouldn't have been able to get it through Customs, anyway, considering what was/is in it. So now I'm chronologically 60, but, since it was unused for those 19 years, my mind is a mere 41 years old.
Regards,
John |

I had just thought that the Heisenburg Uncertainty Principle applied to johnslat the way it does to subatomic matter - that his position could not be exaclty pinpointed.
Oh, well. |

Dear Wolf,
It DOES apply to me, at least insofar as I'm uncertain about almost everything. In fact, the only thing I AM certain about is my vast uncertainty.

In defense of johnslat, who (whom? I've noticed other posters sometimes write DISCLAIMER, and so I add that, um, I've shared a few glasses of wine with friends tonight) I consider a future esl buddy (after an amusing and memorable banter concerning erehwon), I think it quite appropriate to list more than one location. I myself am in Florida (body...practical circumstances), Canada (heart...am somewhat homesick), and SE Asia/Central & South America/Turkey (mind...future aspirations as esl teacher). Kudos to johnslat for forgetting his physical location! Though, I'm sure he is of sound mind and heart. |

Dear Ria,
Being able to forget my physical location actually came in quite handy during my rather extended stay in the Kingdom. While " lliving inside your head " can be dangerous if taken too far, it can also be a decided asset when you're residing in, say, Riyadh.
Regards,
John
P.S. I remember nowhere ( ah, erehwon, that is ) quite well. |
