I tried a search, but couldn't find anything. And IATEFL doesn't have any Chinese group in their list of their associates. Are there annual conferences or congresses for English teachers in China? Or workshops, training sessions held by any TEFL organisation? |

This spring I was invited to attend theFirst International Conference on Early Childhood Education in Shanghai. It was a three-day event and despite the lack of workshops very well run.

How do you find out about the conferences? Is there a nation TEFL organisation or something similar? |

Wouldn't that be cool and oh-so forward thinking for there to be conferences, workshops, seminars, etc. for foreign teachers to attend? Wouldn't it be neat-o to actually share ideas, not only with other FTs but with Chinese counterparts as well? Wouldn't it be wise for people in the Chinese education bureaus to actually recognize the validity of foreign teachers in the field of English education and try to understand the problems they encounter?
Saying all that . . . who here would actually attempt to attend these workshops if they were offered in your neck of the woods? Would you attend on your own time and dime or would you expect your school to send you and pick up the tab (time served, transportation, hotels, food . . . )? |

Yes...this is The Question...
When I was teaching in Taiwan in late '80s, I used time/dime to attend in Japan the annual JALT Conference.
For long it has been my intention/yearning to develop a Learning Community. It looks like it's happening at Red Horse Lake. When people live and work and playand learn together, a learning/earning community can develop. |
