Deaths from fires in Russia are 4 times what they are in the US. I was surprised that nobody knew what I was talking about when I tried to buy a smoke detector for my flat. As far as a fire extinguisher, they suggested I go to an auto store.
This seemed odd to me, because there are fire hoses and stuff all over the place as well as billboards about fire safety so they obviously recognize it as a problem.
If I wanted to make some cash, I'll bet if you could find some way to get a case of smoke detectors over to the Yarmaka there at Bargationskaya metro they would sell like hotcakes. Any comments?
Perhaps we need to incorporate what is a smoke detector into one of our lesson plans. After all, a dead student wastes all our efforts. |
