I have worked at several colleges and universities (private and non-profit) in HK

I feel it is time I create a list and post warnings.

One college I have worked at for 5 years (p/t) pays only on the completion of programs. That is a whole semester. In this case February to June.

When it comes time to collect my payment, I am given multiple false dates for collection. I was told Thursday the 21st of June. Today I called to check up and "oh it is under review for approval, maybe next Thursday."

Now I am not surprised, heck I am used to to it, but when I asked who I needed to speak to, to get it moving, I was told "I no tell you!."

Right, this fucker needs some more paperwork. That or a good kicking.

I realize that my reference form the college could be in danger form this but, I know of a few instances which, should they become public knowledge would explain most clearly why I have chosen not to stay with the institute. That is if getting paid quarter and late weren't enough!

Anyone have a quick contact number for the labour department? Tips and advice for starting a mountain of paperwork at my beloved accountant?

What is a 'private and non-profit' university, pray tell? And why would anyone ever accept a deal whereby they are only paid upon completion of a course? That seems to be an open invitation to trouble if you ask me.

A non-profit university has non-profit status and operates under the charities and non-profit status.

Private colleges offering overseas programs from various Mickey Mouse Universities are the sum-total of everything that is wrong in the private education sector.

As for why did I accept? Hmm it is/was a growing institution, actually credible. Made up of caring staff. Well, ok that's what I thought initially.

Woo Hoo

I just received an e-mail to inform me that the president went to the college to sign my cheque and that it has been deposited.

That just leaves two points:

(1) the return of 4 books stolen by students

(2) an honest and heavenly written letter of reference

A note to all readers, payment on completion of programs really does suck. Avoid it at all cost. There are aways delays in the process and the frustrations can become unbearable.
