Hello there folks,

I'm considering the possibility of just going to Southeast Asia (Thailand-Laos-Vietnam-Cambodia) and looking for employment the old fashioned way - door to door. From what I've read on this site and others many schools in the region don't advertise online. I have enough money in the bank from teaching in Korea that I should be able to survive down there for quite some time before it runs out, so I figure it'll give me the opportunity to travel and to check out schools firsthand. I've got a university degree and experience teaching in Korea (but no cert) and I'd like to find a job somewhere a little off the beaten track. Anybody try this method lately? How'd it pan out for you? What documents do the schools generally need from you and do they help out with visa requirements? Any help would be mighty appreciated. Cheers.

For large tracts of Planet Terra, this method is the sensible way. Maybe the ONLY way. The idea that you can get a job by writing a letter or sending an e-mail seems very weird to many people.

And if I were recruiting someone I would want to have a squint at them.
You know, see how many heads they have and that sort of check, just to keep out the extra-terrestrials and real weirdoes.

Hi

I was in Ho Chi Minh City in July and August, and that is the ONLY way to get work there. I could have been teaching 2 days after my arrival if I so desired but I srayed for two months volunteering in an Orphanage.

I am now in China (have been here for 5 months and love it) and I got this job over the Internet.

You cannot get work in Vietnam without actually being there I feel.

Good luck
