Why not tell us what each job offers, i.e. copy-and-paste the contracts sent to you in e-mail so posters here can make their own recommendations. |

TW the contracts are a personel thing with me and the schools as negotiated items. i mean no offence , but what i am asking is about the schools themselves. such as working conditions, resources, and general accountability isues, and such |

The suitability of the school is going to be a personal thing too as everyone has different expectations. Just because someone did or did not enjoy their experience there in the past does not mean that you will or won't.
I think that what tw is suggesting is that you post the conditions of the work that have been outlined to you by the relevant schools. That way we can all comment on something concrete. |

Franly, these are both lowfall offers.
I have friends in Chengdu who are easily making RMB 7000 + per month with better conditions.
Shared housing? Never....40 hours per week for RMB 5000 a month? You can get uni or middle school jobs in Chengdu for much more money that that with private housing and 20 hours per week.
Why do you want to work in language mills such as those, of all things? Do a search on this site for both schools and I am sure that you will be surprised at what you read.
If you look on www.eslteachersboard.com under the China section, you will find a Chengdu recruiter who is an Australian who has established himself quite well in the local market and might be able to find you a much, much better job than either of these.
One needs to exercise severe caution with language mills in China; more often than not, foreign teachers come up on the loosing end (as they do sometimes in public schools, too). One needs to exercise extreme severe caution with the more notorious of the language mills...
If you have a university degree and at least two years of experience, somewhere, somehow, contact the Australian guy.
All the best,
HFG |

As I tell the OP in the "Office hours" thread, this is yet another stink deal. English First, like most language mills, likes to lure unsuspecting first-timers with what appears to be high salaries. The problem here is the additional 20 hours which basically translates to office hours. So you will be teaching 4 hours a day and doing anything they deem teacher development or lesson planning for another 4 hours every day. Let's do the math:
(5000 RMB x 3 months) + (5500 RMB x 3 months) + (6000 RMB x 6 months) = 67500 RMB
67500 RMB / 12 months = 5625 RMB/month (average)
5625 RMB / 160 hours = 35.15625 RMB/hour
At that rate, you'd be making 2812.5 RMB teaching 20 hours at a local public college/university. Does that sound like a good deal to you?

Without knowing specifically just how what the maximum weekly teaching hours are, it's hard to make a fair assessment of this offer. My advice is to ask in writing for spefic details, or you could find yourself making 5000 RMB a montn teaching 30 hours a week. |

What? You are negotiating for a job on Wall Street?
p.s.- (does it need to be pointed out you chastized someone for trying to help you?)

Well Mr. Foreigndevil
Thank you for your kind words but take into account if you will your own statement in itself.

First of all in a world of competition for employment it is the wise man that keeps certain information private. There was no malice or secondary implications in my statement. Unlike yours which seems to be maligned with sarcasm and veiled hints of i am better than anyone else in a quest of greener pastures. i am not and nor are you for that matter. We are all here and there in this for the experiences and teaching and the money.

p.s.- (does it need to be pointed out you chastized someone for trying to help you?) |
Secondly, Sir where is the chastisement in my statement? i was not disrespecting TW by any means shape or fashion. i do not know TW. and if anyone had cause to question my statement about him ,well then it should have been him. and since he did not, i am lead to the understanding that he understood my desire to keep the information private, and the he did not have a problem with it.
Finally , i am not of an opinion that posting a comment like yours is neither helpful nor constructive. If you cant say something suitable or helpful to the question being asked then the penny paid for your comments was well another iinstance of our government school system spending gone a muck again
P.s. chastized is spelled CHASTISED

Papa Bear, don't try to correct others when you clearly have the most mistakes of anyone on this thread.

OK Children...
OP good luck on your search.
Salary is important and while many will work for low wages you should look for something that pays "scale" and a livable wage without becomeing an FT SLAVE to a 40 hour week.
If you want to work 40 hour weeks that is great but make sure you are paid for this.
A LOW 40 hour wage is 8000... but try and get a job that give you 20 hours a week and an apartment and some travel money as well as airfare. Once you find a suitable job then head out and look for some pt jobs that pay you cash on the spot...
Don't make a too quick decision too accept a job and search lots of different job sites for a better choice. This is a good time to find the right poisition.
And btw, I don't use a spell checker... |
