i'm a 22-year-old gringa. where i come from, it is definitely not cool to be overtly affectionate with your partner in front of your friends. this is called PDA (public displays of affection) and it is just rude and makes everyone else uncomfortable.
so...naturally i find it a bit awkward when i'm hanging out with my mexican friends and couples will just start making out right while i'm there. i understand that this is a cultural difference...i am now dating a mexican guy and i have tried to explain to him that i am not ok with him being all over me when other people are in the room.
has anyone else had to deal with this issue? or am i just a total prude...? |

Your limits are your limits and it's never bad to express them.
I'd say my hometown folk would agree with you, though I've never been bothered by such displays here. I certainly do notice the lack of warmth between people whenever I make it back home for a trip. Almost feel like I should wear rubber gloves when dealing with Canadians in Canada now. |

Depends on the kind of PDA... holding hands or a simple kiss never bothers me. Serious French kissing and groping can be annoying... but I have to admit it depends on how public the place is and how long its been since Ive had a boyfriend!!! |
