Okay....so me and thelmadatter are thinking that we need to have a fabulously combined extravaganza celebration of Canada Day and July 4th here in D.F. As of yet...we do not know where but are working on it (if anyone has ideas...please share!) Anyone who lives here or who will be in town for the day is encouraged to come and share. In fact...I am writing this not only as an invitation, but also as a plea for any other CNDs out there to come...I'm currently the only one!
Is there anyone out there who would be interested in attending such an outing? We're thinking bbq, booze and balloons (water...to re-enact 1812..and even with only me there...we all know who wins! )
The day will be June 30 as sadly...I have to work July 2nd and it involves parent meetings so I would rather not show up tired and perhaps hungover!
This is an open invitation and I hope that anyone and all in the area at that time will come out! |

Thanks for the invitation. If in or near DF, I accept and would like to meet some of the members. My private tutoring schedule is very flexible yet every time I've gone to another country, events never unfolded as planned. Hope to see you there. |

What have y'all done with Guy? Isn't he a Canadian in DF, usually attending these gatherings? |

You guys in DF have all the fun...
There aren't enough of us here in Monterrey to have these big gatherings...sigh.
Hubby and I did attend a Canadian social function last weekend and I have to say - it reminded me of why I left Canada in the first place. Most of the attendees were hoity toity types (it was in the rich neighborhood) and when we said we were English teachers we got the "Oh, that's nice"...One woman had the nerve to say "oh that's a nice hobby" or something like that. Anyway the music was quiet and soft and everyone stood around chatting and then it all ended at 11...what a bore. We went out after with an American and Dutch teacher we met here and had a blast but that party was as dull as the school year is long...
Anyway sorry to be OT but I wish we could come and meet y'all down there in DF - sounds like you have a blast. |

Okay All....
Here is the plan for the July 1/July 4th celebration. There is a park right outside the Centro Medico Metro Line (light green line) that has the space and the place for the event. The park is called Antonio M. Anza and the street that is the exiti for it is called Huatabampo. The idea is that we do a sorta-version of a potluck: everyone brings a little side-dish (salad, dip, chips what not), their own drink of choice, and meat (for those of you who eat that sort of thing ) as there will be a grill there to use (not huge but we can roate the cooking).
Chairs or blankets to sit on would also be a good thing as there are benches but they are spread out around the park and thus don't quite make it convient for conversing and playing.
Friends and family are welcome to come along with you, it's an open invite to all who are interested. All I ask is that you let me know you're a go so that we have an idea for numbers.
Anyone have any idea how to aquire fireworks? Or the legality of them (I know they are popular here but...that doesn't mean they're legal) I've seen them and heard them but I haven't seen a place to actually pick them up from. IF anyone has knowledge of that, that would be fabulous!
I really hope that those of you who are in town are able to make it out so that we can meet and greet and have some fun! I'm looking forward to it!

Just to add a little more information, the park is located on the exit of metro Centro Medico, which intersects Lines 3 and 9 (green line and brown line), and is located on the corner of Huatabampo and Ave. Cuahtemoc. It is right across the street from a couple of hospitals, including Centro Medico Nacional Siglo XXI. The park is large, has some bench areas scattered around, including one pavillion type area with a roof. There are no grills that I know of. It has children play areas for those of you with kids. It is very green, safe and clean, and is right on the edge of Colonia Roma. Some weekends, the place is littered with Scouts or other groups, but I don't think anyone can reserve any of the areas. I live nearby, but my apartment is nowhere large enough to hold a group of people.
I'll be there and hope many others can make it also. |

What time are we doing this?
I am going to bring a few steaks, Chimichurri (a very Canadian thing of course!), and water balloons.
